How does a student and a professor
end up surfing in front of building 5 on the HSD campus? It is all part of the
master class Engineering Conferences!
In this course, the students have to write a scientific
paper based on their bachelor thesis, accompanied by a conference poster and a
presentation. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the class had to be taught entirely
online. However, in order to provide some extra motivation, the two best
scientific posters, compiled
by the students from their bachelor thesis,
were awarded a special prize: a HSD-MV Surf Board. The boards have been
developed by Prof. Neef and were produced in the building 6 with the support of the PBSA work
shop. The students of the master class were
in charge to select the best posters after the presentation. Mrs. Vania Meurer
and Mr. Guus van Wezel were the well-deserved winners. On Thursday, the 15th
of July 2021, Matthias Neef and Claudia
Fussenecker, as part of the Engineering Conferences teaching team, had the
honour to hand over the boards, followed by some onsite surfing activities.
Engineering Conferences is a mandatory class for all master
students of the mechanical and process engineering department. It aims at
enhancing technical and scientific communication skills and a better
understanding of the process of technical research publication.
The class is taught by two different teaching teams and
offered every semester. For further information click here.
